Having the best computer power supply is important. Computer power supplies have been a main cause of system instability and crashes, yet it is the last component people suspect of being the problem. Using the best computer power supply is especially important for the latest PCs. With the increasing speed of computers and other components comes an increase in power consumption.

The two main components that use the most power are the CPU and the video card. For example, a Pentium 4 2GHz CPU consumes about 75 watts of power. As for a video card, it can use almost as much, if not more, wattage as the CPU itself under the stress of a 3D game. This is true for video cards that require an extra 3.3V line for power. It is also important to make sure the power supply is approved for use with the type of CPU you are using. Somewhere in the description it should say that the power supply is approved for the latest AMD and/or Intel CPU's.

Another nice feature to consider is whether the power supply has a fan regulator which allows the fan to run at the lowest, appropriate speed to produce less noise. The less noise coming from your computer, the better you can concentrate on your work.
