A video card works with a monitor to update the screen. Even if you are not a gamer, there are still a few things to check for in a video card. First, make sure the resolution you plan on working in supports a refresh rate of at least 75 Hz. Anything less might cause screen flickering and give you a headache. Note that this is only applicable for CRT monitors, not flat panel. If you are a gamer, then you will want to use an AGP video card. The AGP is a connector on the motherboard that is designed specifically for 3D gaming. If your motherboard does not have an AGP slot, do not worry. You can still get some PCI graphic cards that handle gaming well. I will present some below. For the best experience on the latest games, my advice is to go for at least 64MB memory on the card. This will help keep all the large textures in video memory without having to go to the slower system memory. |
